Less than two months ago it was confirmed that the award-winning joker will have a sequel Joker: Folie a Deux. Now it’s official actress and singer Lady Gaga will co-starmost likely playing the eternal love of the Joker, harley quinn.
Director Todd Phillips, in charge of the prequel and, of course, in charge of this sequel, confirmed Gaga’s participation in the feature film via an Instagram post after Deadline will beat you to it.
Lady Gaga, meanwhile, posted on Twitter the release date of Joker: Folie à Deux, which will hit theaters on October 4, 2024.
In addition, the tweet adds a first teaser, which with a red background and old, theater music, shows some words in black, such as the last name of Joaquin Phoenix, the interpreter of Arthur Fleck, the Joker, Gaga’s, and some figures of the characters in black, first separated and then together, apparently dancing.
A musical?
When director Todd Phillips shared the cover of the Joker 2 script in June, rumors that the film would be a musical began. Now, with this teaser with background music, the comments intensified.
It’s hard to imagine that the whole film has to do with music, so TheVerge it limits itself to saying that it “includes musical elements”, which makes it logical to choose Lady Gaga for the role, which should be that of Harley Quinn.
Quinn, played by Margot Robie in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU, for its acronym in English), is the Joker’s greatest love interest in the comics, and the title of Folie à Deux, which means “Madness for two” in Spanish. Sounds like something out of a romantic story.
About Joker: Folie à Deux there are no more details about its plot, although it could include a new angle based on the chaos in Arkham Asylum. For now, the production of the film will begin in December.
