Animal meat grown in a laboratory has been trying to gain a foothold in the food industry for years. LVaccines and chicken have already been manufactured and they have been tested by medical experts who analyze if this generates the nutrients and proteins for the human body, if it does not harm and the taste.
There are different companies that focus their work on mass manufacturing, waiting for approval to simply go to market. The portal gizmodo reports that two of the most important have already received the first OK from the United States Department of Agriculture.
The two companies that the aforementioned portal speaks of are based in California. They are called Upside Foods and Eat Just and the approval they received allows them to do two things: start the mass production of synthetic chicken and sell it in any store.
In the manufacturing process there are only manufactured ingredients. There is no egg, nor laying hen, for the peace of mind of vegans. In addition to receiving approval from the institution that oversees food quality, the two companies had previously obtained permits from the Food & Drug Administration (FDA).
The CEO and also founder of Upside Foods and Eat Just, Uma Valeti expressed her excitement about obtaining the permits, in a company press release.
I am delighted to share that cultured meat will now be available to consumers in the United States. This approval will fundamentally change the way meat reaches our table. It is a big step forward towards a more sustainable future, one that preserves choice and life.
While Josh Tetrick, executive director of Good Meat, highlights the importance of this permit, which changes the paradigm of the livestock industry in the United States. His company has been marketing beef in Singapore since 2020. He says that his products have been widely accepted in the Asian market.
“This announcement that we can now produce and sell meat grown in the United States is an important moment for our company, the industry and the food system,” he said.
