The company Atlas Renewable Energy reported this Friday the inauguration of the second largest solar park in Mexico, called “The pepper” located in the southern state of campeche. It is estimated that it will benefit more than 300,000 families in the Yucatan peninsula.
More than one million solar panels were distributed over 651 hectares in the municipality of Carmen and are expected to produce 789 gigawatt hours of clean energy per year for the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE).
During the premiere, as expressed by the US company specializing in renewable energy projects in a statement, it was possible to appreciate the already installed capacity of 300 megawatts.
In addition to the reduction of 1.7 million tons of carbon dioxide, Those responsible for the project highlighted the more than 1,000 jobs generatedmainly occupied by local labor.
The consul general of USA in Mérida, Dorothy Ngutter, stressed that “the commitment of our governments (the US and Mexico) in clean energy and energy transition pays off for the benefit of our nations and the planet.”
For his part, the Secretary of the Interior of Campeche, Aníbal Ostoa, focused on the business benefits of the new solar park.

A project committed to female talent and care for the environment
They also highlighted the work of the company to support women through the social program “We are part of the same energy”. It trained more than 355 women from local communities in technical skills, of which 165 were hired during the construction of the park.
Thus, female representation was raised from 2% to 15% in the construction of this type of infrastructure.
Atlas Renewable Energy promoted the “Carmen Project”. Its focus was to support the surrounding communities through the construction, rehabilitation and equipment of two health centers, created in partnership with the Campeche State Health Secretariat.
And in the environmental field, implemented a program to protect local fauna and flora by building a natural corridor within the plant. Its objective is to support the preservation of the natural habitat.
