In 2015, Kylie Jenner took the beauty world by storm by launching her own brand, Kylie Cosmetics, which was then Kylie Lip Kits, as she started out selling liquid lipstick and lip liner kits. Since then, the brand has continued to grow and add products to its line, to the point that in 2018 it was reported to be worth $900 million.
Every important date, like Christmas, a new Kylie Cosmetics collection comes out alluding to said holiday. This time it is the turn of Valentine’s Day and Kylie has shared all the details on social networks.
Valentine’s Collection
The collection, which will go on sale on February 3, consists of an eyeshadow palette with a heart mirror, three stick blushes, two of the traditional Lip Kits, a set of lip glosses and one of lip balms, a highlighter and false eyelashes, all in shades alluding to the most romantic day of the year and with a packaging that is to melt with love.
However, many fans of the brand were not happy. According to many makeup lovers, Kylie’s brand hasn’t offered anything new in a while and they accuse her of simply recycling the same colors and changing the packaging for each collection, but the product itself doesn’t evolve or improve. Furthermore, they question why a multi-million dollar brand appears to be so uncreative.
There are complaints about creativity and quality
Also, many people on Twitter and Instagram have expressed their opinions about the quality of the products. Kylie’s products aren’t cheap at all, and it seems the quality of her cosmetics doesn’t always reflect their high price.
But that is not all! Something that Kylie’s brand always takes care of is the packaging of the products, which is usually original and reflects very well the essence of the collection. On this occasion, the heart-shaped packaging definitely is. However, Kylie may be involved in a scandal as she is being accused of plagiarism.
Is the packaging stolen?
It turns out that the Valentine’s collection has a very similar packaging to that of the cosmetics brand of the drag queen Trixie Mattel, Trixie Cosmetics, who has used heart-themed packaging for a long time before.
Netizens quickly spotted the similarities and began filling the comments section of Kylie Cosmetics’ posts in defense of Trixie.
The controversy is gathering steam, so much so that Trixie herself made a TikTok video about it. It is seen that it is rather in a joking tone, but it may be that she did feel surprised and even a little confused.
For their part, the fans from Kylie claim that Trixie has never patented heart packaging, so anyone can use it. Furthermore, they claim that it is not uncommon to find love-themed beauty products, and hearts are the universal symbol for it.
@trixiemattel Kylie I’m calling the police.

It is not the first time that the Kardashian-Jenner family has been involved in plagiarism controversies. In 2017, Khloé was accused of stealing ideas from independent designers for her own brand, Good America Denim, and Kylie herself has been accused of this on more than one occasion. In fact, in 2016, when her brand was just getting started, makeup artist Vlada Haggerty accused her of taking her ideas for her ad campaign.
At the end of the day, it’s a touchy subject, but we know that a new collection from the Kardashian-Jenner family will almost always guarantee a scandal.
