Every three to four hours your baby can switch from one of the following six sleep states to another. It is important that you know them so that you can satisfy their need to sleep at that moment. Remember that up to six months, it is vital for him to feel protected and with the assurance that his caregivers are there to solve his needs and, of course, improve the stress he can feel from not sleeping peacefully.
Michelle Aziz, expert pedagogue states that just when children feel stress because they have a physical or emotional need (cold, hunger, sleep, fear, hunger …) it is when they develop attachment, which becomes safe if their mother attend, or unsure if it lets you cry or does not help you fall asleep, for example.
In this sense, for your child to develop a secure attachment and with it a strong, self-confident, empowered personality, you need to know him well to well to know how to meet his needs, such as sleeping peacefully.
States of your dream, how you recognize them and what you can do:
Deep sleep: breathing is deep and regular. Tip: try to keep the environment calm and noise-free.
Light sleep: eyelids flutter, breathing becomes shallower, toddler may freak out or move. Tip: when you see him jump or move, lift his tummy to make him feel present and calm down.
Drowsiness: You are likely to whine, sleepy open your eyes, wake up, or fall asleep again. Tip: Speak softly, sing to him and caress him.
Awake and attentive: it is the state in which it responds better, the body and the eyes are more focused. Tip: If you want to induce him to sleep, a trick is to take a walk with him to tire him a little.
Annoyed and awake: the baby seems to be too stimulated, for that reason he cries a lot, turns his head, wriggles. Tip: check her diaper, breastfeed and check her temperature, the reason may be that she needs to eat.
Crying: the baby cries, seeks the attention of his parents, if he is reassured he may fall asleep or return to the state of attention. Tip: wear it for a while so that it calms down listening to your heart and feeling your warmth.
