Even though superhero movies are the most successful today, there are many moviegoers (and well-known industry personalities) who disagree with their success. They even consider them inferior to other genres. For all those detractors of superhero movies, Kevin Feige has a few words.
In an interview for the official podcast of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Feige gave his opinion on all those who have rejected the genre and refused to watch Marvel or DC movies just because they are based on a comic. These were his words.
“There were some people who couldn’t get into a two-dimensional story, printed in four colors. You know, they just couldn’t do that. Just like today, dare I say it. They are people who cannot overcome a story of this genre, or something that is in space, or people who can breathe for water, like: ‘No, it’s not for me’”.
Unfortunately, the criticism of these films has become increasingly strong. It’s not just about online haters hiding behind a computer anymore. In recent years, respected directors such as Martin Scorsese, James Cameron, Denis Villeneuve and Francis Ford Coppolaamong others, have shown their contempt for the stories that Marvel tells, mainly.
Despite the little support he has received from the greats of the industry, Feige was excited by the road traveled in recent decades. Before it was impossible to think that movies based on comics could be good. Nowadays, some of them have already been nominated for several major awardsLike the Oscars, for example.
“I think, every day, how lucky I am to do this. Every day is surreal, and bringing these comic book stories back to life has been a 22-year journey, just from the early days of the first X-Men movie being in the works. All that part of my life was spent thinking and dreaming: ‘What if we could make more X-Men movies? What if we could bring Spider-Man to the screen? What would happen if we finally got to do The Avengers? ‘It’s fun that audiences responded the way he has,’ he said.
For now, Kevin Feige is preparing the release of three essential films for the future of the MCU. Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3, Y The Marvels They will hit theaters this year. After a 2022 full of controversy, will these tapes manage to win back the audience, or will more directors launch against them?
Juan Jose Cruz I am one of those who always defended Robert Pattinson as Batman and can see the same movie in the theater up to 7 times. My guilty pleasure? Low budget horror movie.
