Can you imagine what would have happened to the MCU without Kevin Feige? And if we turn it around, what would have happened to DC if it had Feige as its supervisor? Apparently this was close to becoming a reality, back in 2013, during Phase 2 of the MCU.
We assume that a large part of the fans of Marvel or from the world of superheroes they know who he is Kevin Feigthe man behind the MCUthe president of Marvel Studios. However, this position was obtained in 2007 and three years ago he became the creative director, becoming responsible for the stories in movies, series, animation and comics of Marvel. But what would have happened if feige would have gone to work for DC?
These last years, the MCU had a great expansion: it reached the small screen and introduced several new characters. These series that we were watching in Disney+ they have their infinite connections with the films that will continue to be released in this Phase four and we suppose that the five. Without feige behind, this could have been very different. It’s like thinking of a chapter of What if…?
According to Puck News, Kevin Feig would have seriously considered leaving the Marvel Cinematic Universe during Phase Two to take over DC. The cause? isaac “Ike” Perlmutter, CEO of Marvel Entertainmentwho around 2013 was the direct superior of feige. At that time there were several clashes and frustrations between them that almost made feige go to DC.
After years of working and producing films from Marvel for other studies feige won the position of president of Marvel Studios in 2007 and began developing a new slate of movies with supporting or “B-list” characters. However, the superior of him (Perlmutter) began to limit the projects that feige I had in mind, whether it be movies or characters that I could use.
Back then, Perlmutter did not support or agree with the idea of feige to make films that starred women or people of color, as I believed they would not sell toys. Luckily, near the end of Phase 2 (around 2015), feige managed to ignore Perlmutter and began reporting directly to Bob Igerthe then CEO of Disney. Thanks to this we had in Phase 3 a Black Panther, Captain Marvel, among other characters that are super important today.
Apparently, it was because of those problems that feige seriously considered leaving Marvel by DC. “Zaslav (CEO of Warner Bros Discovery) I could do another run with feigewho, I was told, was quite serious with Warner a few years ago when he was trying to escape the supervision of the then crazy CEO of Marvel, Ike Perlmutter”wrote Matthew Belloni of Puck News while discussing the future of DC with Warner Bros Discovery.
But why go to DC? Well, at that moment, Warner Bros he wanted the stories of his superheroes to have a similar success to the ones of Marvel on the big screen. The film that was in the spotlight was Man of Steel (2013) and was supposed to be in charge of starting a shared universe, but not everything went as expected. A lot of executives left and the movies weren’t as successful as the one in MCU.
So we are not surprised that DC have been interested in adding to your team Kevin Feig. What does attract attention and makes us think is what would have happened if feige I would have made the decision to leave.
The story would be completely different. DC I probably would have climbed a few steps and had a DC Cinematic Universe, full of cameos, references and post-credits scenes. After all, feige could have supervised batman v superman and the movies that followed.
While Marvelwith Perlmutter in the head, perhaps it was taking a nosedive, preventing the franchise from diversifying and the plan of the MCU was not as powerful as it is today. Who would have been left with the position of president of Marvel Studios? Louis D’Esposito perhaps, who is now the co-chair.
Like it or not Kevin Feig is the main responsible for the films (and series) of the MCU have the success and popularity that they have. Let us remember that this franchise is the highest grossing in the history of cinema, they have raised more than 25 billion dollars worldwide. So call it luck, patience, work or clairvoyance, but feige he hit her and she did well.
