Every time Keanu Reeves is captured by paparazzi, his face is serious, thoughtful and sometimes sad. For this last reason, the meme “Keanu sad” emerged on social networks. For years we’ve wondered what happened at that point in the actor’s life to make him look like this, and finally host Stephen Colbert did us the huge favor of asking him.
In the program The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the driver did not hesitate to make a comparison between the photo of “Keanu sad” with one of the pictures of the comic BRZRKR. When Keanu saw it, he was shocked and then he started to explain the whole story behind the picture.
What happened to Keanu that day?
Colbert presented the photo to the public to give him a context of what he was talking about and also to, once and for all, ask the actor what he was doing that day that made him feel so sad. To the surprise of many, Keanu’s response was very simple:
I was just eating a sandwich. I was thinking. He had a few things on his mind and he was just hungry.
However, the driver’s surprises did not end there. Then he discovered another part of the photograph which he compared to the painting in BRZRKR and he mentioned that the image had been created by Ron Garny, the person in charge of illustrating the comic written by Matt Kindt and Keanu himself.
By the way, the comic was created due to the affection that the actor feels for these stories, that’s why he created a character that is basically inspired by his image and whom he called Berzerker, who is half mortal and half god, son of the god of war and who is “compelled to violence, even at the cost of his sanity.”
The actor has become an involuntary meme machine and when Colbert asked him what this great ability was due to, the actor only limited himself to answering:
I have no idea, sir…really.
Maybe Keanu was just choking on his food a bit because he didn’t have a drink nearby, but hey, people always take everything out of context. Anyway, he’s great at making memes and we hope they never end.
