The great productions of the martial arts usually show a special relationship between the sensei and his student. Dragon Ball does it with Goku and Master Roshias is the case with The Karate Kid and the bond between Mr. Miyagi and Daniel San (Larusso).
A Brazilian illustrator, who we know loves live action, came up with the idea of making a kind of real-life Dragon Ball movie with Pat Morita and Ralph Macchio as the main characters in Akira Toriyama’s work.
How would this plot have turned out? They both have the ability to interpret martial arts characters, so on that side we already know that there is a point in favor of live action, if they had thought of it before Morita’s death, in 2005.
Illustrator SamukArts grabs an image from the iconic first Karate Kid movie, which is from 1984, a year before Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball manga first aired.
The photo shows Daniel Larusso and Miyagi striking a martial arts pose, and the illustrator puts the master in the same clothes as Roshi, including the turtle shell. While the disciple is left with the same outfit that the actor was wearing, but he makes the same hair style that Goku wears.
“The same energy”, says the famous Brazilian illustrator.
