This Monday, March 11, has been a busy day at the Videna facilities, since Jorge Fossati announced his first list of those called up as technical director of the Peruvian National Team, with a view to the friendly matches in March against Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. Among the names that remain from the previous process with Juan Reynoso and some surprises – such as the inclusion of José Rivera, with a good presence in Universitario de Deportes –, the Uruguayan made it clear that this is not a closed list, much less a sign that they will always be called under his tutelage.
In the first instance, the 'Charrúa' strategist clarified that he completed his list of those mentioned yesterday, considering elements of League 1 Te Apuesta and those who are active abroad. Of course, he maintained that there were several players who were left out due to physical issues, and others because he did not want to overload his first call-up with names, taking into account that perhaps they were not going to add minutes. Likewise, he was emphatic when stating that no one can leave these friendlies feeling essential in the 'Blanquirroja'.
“This is an open list, in the sense that we only finished aligning it yesterday and we have had many more players on our radar than those listed here, from the middle and abroad. There are several of those footballers who were not taken into account due to injuries and physical condition. And some were not called due to quota issues. We understand that this is a way to respect the footballer himself. That's why I said, here no one is out for the future and no one of those called up can leave with the Peru shirt in their bag.”, he stated.
In that same line, Jorge Fossati considered that the players who are called to the Peruvian National Team They must earn their place on a daily basis, showing that they can be in La Videna thanks to their abilities and the football contribution they will give to their team. Likewise, he stressed that the past of each team is not a measure for their call-up, since they are obliged to maintain their level according to the conclusions of their technical command.
“This is something to earn on a daily basis. Of course we take into account who each one is and what they have shown up to this point. But, if what you have demonstrated up to now, and you do not continue to demonstrate it, you cannot live from the past. Conclusions are drawn and we continue to improve on a daily basis.“added the 71-year-old technical director, who also confirmed that Alexander Calles will be the first summoned to join the training sessions. The AEK Atenas defender will arrive in Lima tonight.

What's coming up for the Peruvian National Team?
After knowing the list of Jorge Fossati's squad, the Peruvian National Team will begin working at La Videna with a view to the friendly matches against Nicaragua and Dominican Republic, agreed for Friday, March 22 and Tuesday, March 26, respectively. The first of them will be played at the Alejandro Villanueva Stadium, while the second at the Monumental; both from 8:30 p.m.
It must be taken into account that the 'Blanquirroja' will also have two more preparation duels in June, prior to their participation in the Copa América 2024, to be held in the United States from the 20th of that month until July 14. The national team was placed in Group A along with Argentina, Chile and the fifth representatives of Concacaf, who will come from the winner of the match between Canada and Trinidad and Tobago.
