The new Gotham criminal clown movie, sequel to the acclaimed 2019 film starring Joaquin Phoenix, is currently in filming. Just a few days ago, Lady Gaga shared a first image of her and the actor characterized as their respective characters in this production. And although it is not yet official, everything indicates that the actress and singer will give life to Harley Quinn, the Joker’s accomplice in love, who according to latest rumors, will also have a different origin story from the one indicated in the canon.
This week, the insider KC Walsh (via The Direct) reported on social networks that, supposedly, the upcoming Joker: Folie à Deux will propose an origin of the lunatic Harley Quinn that diverges from the original conception of the character.
It should be remembered that, after his debut in the nineties program Batman: The Animated Series, it was stipulated that the antagonist -before starting her criminal life- was Dr. Harleen Quinzel, a psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum who had the Joker himself as a patient. However, she unexpectedly falls in love with the clown and he ends up corrupting her in order to always have her by her side, in the role of her lover and partner in misdeeds.
However, according to KC Walsh’s report, the sequel to joker it will head down a path that is slightly different in appearance, but whose implications could completely reinvent our notion of Harley. The rumor indicates that the future partner of the deranged Arthur Fleck will not be seen in the film as an Arkham doctor, but as a patient in the psychiatric hospital. If true, now the big question is: what exactly happened in the character’s life to end up in that place? Could he have a more turbulent past than the protagonist’s?
