Although console sales are currently on the right track, considering the pandemic and its problems, the video game market has begun to explore the possibilities of bringing its experiences to the largest number of people without being limited to one piece of hardware. Microsoft is already doing this with Xbox Cloud Gaming, and it seems that PlayStation you want to do something similar.
In a recent interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Jim Ryan, CEO of SIE, has stated that he is happy with the sales of the PS5, but you want your games to be accessible to not only tens of millions of users, but hundreds of millions of people have the opportunity to enjoy their exclusives. This was what he commented:
“I would like to see a world where tens of millions of people can enjoy the games we create on PlayStation. Perhaps hundreds of millions of people. Right now, the success with the current console model, a huge PlayStation hit, is talking about 10 to 20 million people who can play that game.
We are talking about games that are compared to music, we are talking about games that are compared to movies. Music and movies can be enjoyed by an almost unlimited audience. And I think that part of the art that our studios are doing is the best entertainment that has been made anywhere in the world. “
Nevertheless, the executive did not offer a proposal for this dilemma. Although the most obvious option in this case is the cloud, it is likely that PlayStation and Sony do not have the resources to do something like Xbox Cloud Gaming. Another alternative is to bring more of its exclusives to PC, but at the moment it seems that this is going at a slow pace.
On related issues, a new rumor points out that PlayStation is working on another Marvel game. Similarly, after the purchase of Bluepoint Games, the company has not finished with the acquisition of studios.
Editor’s Note:
Although reaching as many people as possible is an increasingly important topic in this industry, the popularity of PlayStation is due to its great AAA exclusives, which you can only find on their consoles. While putting these experiences on PC or other platforms via the cloud benefits everyone involved, this also takes away the premium sentiment of the brand a bit.
