According to Jeff Bezos, people’s biggest regrets appear in old age and he himself explains what they are.
Today, the founder of Amazon is one of the richest men on the planet, second only to his rival Elon Musk, one of the most influential tycoons in history.
According to information from ForbesJeff Bezos, 58, is worth more than $200 billion, while Elon Musk’s fortune is valued at $288.6 billion. These are two of the richest men on the planet.
While it is true that, in some ways, Bezos is still far from considering himself an elderly person, the reality is that, at almost 60 years of age, he is closer to reaching that stage in which, according to his words, life’s greatest regrets occur.
The founder of Amazon affirms that, when a person reaches 80 years of age, he tends to think too much about those opportunities that he let go and, above all, about those risks that he decided not to take.
Somehow, it is a stage in which a person can be considered to be closer to their end, which is why this series of regrets tend to be more constant, remembering those decisions that were not made at the right time.
Talking with Mathias Döpfner, CEO of Axel Springer, in an interview with Business Insider, the founder of the eCommerce giant stated that “very rarely will you regret doing something that didn’t work. It will almost always be about the things you do. They are acts of omission.”
Currently, there is no denying the fact that Jeff Bezos is one of the most influential entrepreneurs in history and an obligatory reference in an era in which digitization plays an important role in society at a global level.
For this reason, talking to the tycoon represents one of the greatest opportunities to discover some of his most intimate secrets or, simply, those that led him to become, at some point, the richest man in the world, an achievement he achieved in 2017.
In that sense, during his interview with the Business Insider portal, Jeff Bezos talked about how his step was from working in a financial company, on Wall Street, in the year 1994, to finally start his own company to sell books through Internet.
In fact, it can be said that this has been one of his most important decisions, a fact that, despite not being entirely certain, managed to become one of his greatest achievements, especially if we take into account that, today, everything is governed through the web.
When Bezos told his boss about his decision, he responded by saying it was a good idea, but “an even better idea for someone who doesn’t have a good job.” Given this, according to what he recounted, he stopped for a long time to carry it out until he finally did it, he took the risk instead of staying with his arms crossed. “I took the less safe path and I am proud of my decision.”
Going a little deeper, the founder of Amazon revealed that one of the factors that most helped him make those decisions was the support of his ex-wife, MacKenzie: “When you have people who love you and support you, you feel that you can take risks,” Bezos said.
In other words, Jeff Bezos says that people’s biggest regrets when they reach 80 years of age are not about bad decisions, stumbles and mistakes, but revolve around missed opportunities and risks not taken.
