Jean-Eric Vergne will start from the first position on the grid for the second race of the Rome ePrix after beating Jake Dennis in Sunday’s grand finale of qualifying. The DS Techeetah driver stopped the clock in 1m38.268s to claim his first Formula E pole position of the year. Behind Verne and Dennis will start André Lotterer and Mitch Evans, pilots who have reached the semifinals. However, after achieving victory in Saturday’s race, Evans is one of the firm candidates for victory.
The second qualifying session of the Rome ePrix kicked off with a Group A in which the top four drivers were Robin Frijns, André Lotterer, Jake Dennis and Sam Bird. They got a ticket to the quarterfinals. For its part, in Group B the singing voice was carried by Sam Bird after signing a time of 1:39.612. The German was a thousandth of a Jaguar driver Pascal Wehrlein. The last two tickets for the next round fell into the hands of Stoffel Vandoorne and Jean-Eric Vergne.
Once the crosses are made, Robin Frijns as the fastest driver in Group A measured forces with Jean-Eric Vergnefourth in group B. However, the French pilot imposed his law with a time of 1:38.348 after beating Frijns by less than a tenth. André Lotterer also managed to get through the round after facing Stoffel Vandoornealthough this duel was much less even and the Porsche driver led the Mercedes driver by three tenths. In the last two crosses Jake Dennis and Mitch Evans beat Pascal Wehrlein and Sam Bird.
The semifinal round left two interesting battles. André Lotterer and Jean-Eric Vergne met in the first duel, but the DS Techeetah driver gave Lotterer no chance and got a ticket to the grand final. For its part, Jake Dennis did the same after beating Mitch Evans. The final match between the two, for pole, fell on the side of Jean-Eric Vergne after signing a time of 1:38.268. The DS Techeetah driver thus reached his first pole of the 2021-22 season.
Putting aside the fight for pole that has left Jean-Eric Vergne ahead of Jake Dennis on the front row of the grid, André Lotterer has taken third place by setting a better time in the semifinals than Mitch Evans. Among the drivers who have been eliminated in the quarterfinals, Sam Bird has been the fastest and thanks to this he will start in fifth place ahead of Robin Frijns, Pascal Wehrlein and Stoffel Vandoorne. In ninth and tenth position appear António Félix Da Costa and Sérgio Sette Câmara.
