In European countries, the United States, Canada and Japan, the use of wood in construction is increasingly common; in fact, even skyscrapers are built. And this trend, which is gaining strength due to its sustainability, Today it is replicated in Mexico through the Anatole Garden, the first building with a wooden structure.
Anatole Garden, an oasis of simplicity in the city
Located on the homonymous street in the heart of Polanco, the five-story building, designed by the studio Dellekamp Architectsis made up of a wooden box supported by a ‘V’ shaped steel column that floats over a public square, surrounded by a garden.
In its conception, efficiency and simplicity were sought; the generation of flexible spaces, free of intermediate columns and the use of few materials with low impact; thus, Oak laminated wood was chosen as the main element for its construction. Likewise, this material has the advantage of being renewable, resistant and fire retardant.
What is interesting about wood is that it is a very light material, compared to steel, but with practically the same flexibility, so for example, for earthquakes, in the case of Mexico, it is a material that works very well”.
Derek Dellekamp, director of the Dellekamp Architects Studio
A public garden in a private space
Also, it is striking that the property has areas free of construction, something unusual in an area with high commercial value like Polanco; and it is that a space of the land was allocated to the creation of a garden with endemic plants. This space is public and connected to the street, for the enjoyment of passers-by.
So now you know, if one day you pass by number 146 Anatole France street, you will be able to enjoy a green oasis in the middle of the asphalt.
