Filmmaker James Gunn would need $500 million to make his vision for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 a reality.
Although Marvel Studios is well known for the high budgets it gives its movies, the $500 million that James Gunn would need to realize his vision for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 could be an impossible amount to reach.
In a recent interview with Collider, James Gunn gave a bit of an update on his current and future projects, including the third installment of Guardians of the Galaxy. Among other things, the filmmaker confessed that, although he has a budget that brings him closer to what he wants, it is not the optimal one to capture his ideas.
“I always think about the budget while I write. Even something with a budget as big as (GOTG) Volume 3 is still a struggle. It’s still a struggle to make it fit the budget because you want a movie to be $500 million. If I had half a billion dollars, I could do something close to what I want. That’s how hard it is. I always have to think about the budget and make compromises because of the budget, but that often leads to good things. Often you are forced to rethink something and you have to find a creative solution.”
Although it will not be the 500 million dollars that James Gunn dreams of, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will have a budget of more than 200 million dollars, a standard amount for Marvel Studios productions, although far from the 356 million dollars allocated to Avengers: Endgame. Although higher than the 150 million dollars that Spider-Man: Homecoming cost.
