Director of the suicide squad and peacemaker has talked about a controversial scene that did not make the cut of Warner Bros executives (spoiler alert)
At the end of the first season of peacemaker we could see the cameo of the Justice League arriving late at the “party” of Christopher Smith with butterflies. Now we’ve discovered that that scene was originally longer but eventually there were some scenes that couldn’t get past the Warner Bros filter no matter how hard their director James Gunn tried to convince them to let him keep it.
In the first episode of the spin-off of the suicide squadPeacemaker / Christopher Smith confesses that he believes that Aquaman has sex with fish, and says so to the face of Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa), in the last chapter of the series when he meets him and other members of the League of Justice, to which Curry replies that “to the balls of that rumor”and Flash (Ezra Miller) quickly tells his fellow leaguer that it’s not a rumour, to which Aquaman responds with a “Suck her, Barry.”
This is the scene in question
It seems that it was not a rumor and that they were going to show us the moment in question
Well, now we have been able to know what truth there was in those rumors of the Atlantean king. In an interview with TotalFilmJames Gunn discussed the content he had to remove from the final footage of peacemakerincluding the revelation of whether Aquaman has had sex with fish. “I have tons of stuff I didn’t use”Gunn told the media. “Ezra went on, and I’m not kidding, for 16 minutes talking about Aquaman having sex with fish. It was really fun. Then we just had a quick shot of Momoa doing it with a sturgeon.”. Gunn added that he offered to cut the scene down, but WB flatly refused.
He also talked about the cameo of The Justice League “It was done by sheer force of will on my part, of really pushing to make it happen.”Gunn explains. “I think everyone read it in the script, agreed with it, and then it became [una cosa]and they realized what a great thing it was.”
Justice League members Batman and Cyborg are notably absent from the cameo, but Gunn promises we can expect more cameos in Season 2.
“I think we’re going to see more connections in other things as we go forward with Peacemaker and other shows on HBO Max. so those [cameos] they will keep coming”Gunn says. “I don’t know if the Justice League will appear in every season of Peacemaker; that could be something unique. We’ll see!”.
With Michael Keaton’s Batman becoming part of the new DCEU canon, and the upcoming introduction of Batgirl, we may see them bump into Christopher Smith in the not too distant future.
What do you think about removing the scene from Aquaman having sex with fish? Would you have liked to see it?
