Director James Gunn has spoken about the change he made in telling the story of one of the best characters in the MCU
The UCM has established itself in the audiovisual world with very complete stories. For more than ten years they have been adapting stories from comics until they have achieved very complete story arcs. James Gunn was chosen to bring Guardians of the Galaxy to life, a peculiar group of thieves who got together in space. After two films and several appearances we have been able to know the inside story of many of them.
The only more substantial change that we have experienced with respect to the background of the characters that we have been able to see in the UCM has been that of Drax. This character came from a planet devastated by Thanos in a war that killed his family. Apart from the thirst for revenge that the character played by Dave Bautista has and a peculiar sense of humor, not much more is explained about him.
Baptist commented in his day he would have liked his character to have more background travel. He still is one of the most beloved characters in the UCM. The director of the films, James Gunn, has responded to a fan in a tweet on this topic.
I didn’t want to make a space opera with a dozen earthlings who just coincidentally found themselves in space. How could I even explain that in the 1st 20 minutes of a movie? I wanted a group of aliens & orphans from different planets who banded together. https://t.co/qwckcP0gaE

It seems that James Gunn did not want to complicate life when presenting the characters. Something very justifiable considering that it was a risky bet on the part of Marvel, but at some point we could see something dedicated especially to Drax. Who knows if it will be possible.
