James Cameron It is clear that if he were to make a movie again Terminator it would leave behind the concept of a killer robot being the villain of the film. Now an Artificial Intelligence would be the main danger for the protagonists and he has plenty of reasons to think so.
When this futuristic film was released in 1984, the film became a cult object due to the vision of its then young James Cameron, who posed the frank and latent dangers with potential advances in the field of robotics.
But in the end, as we have observed in the last few years or even weeks, Artificial Intelligence (AI) platforms have become the main point of concern for society.
Right now these kinds of systems seem to be very useful, at the same time that they seem to threaten to put a lot of graphic artists out of work.
But in reality, such an advanced level of performance could embody a latent danger for the future of humanity. I thought so Stephen Hawking and apparently the filmmaker himself also shares some similar concerns.
Why James Cameron thinks the new Terminator would focus on Artificial Intelligence
With the premiere of Avatar: The Way of Water The director was invited to chat on the latest episode of the Smartless podcast, where he revealed that he’s been in talks about developing a new Terminator movie.
But now the filmmaker would like to move away from the core concept of killer robots to focus on portraying Artificial Intelligence as the main threat:
“If I were to do another Terminator movie, maybe I would try to launch the franchise again, which is actually under discussion although nothing has been decided, but I think now I would do it a lot more on the subject of Artificial Intelligence more than about crazed bad robots.”
It should be noted that James Cameron did not specify whether or not he would like to direct a future installment of this franchise. Although in his comments it seems that there is some concern about what we have seen recently with platforms like ChatGPT, Lensa and MidJourney.
The last tape of this saga that we had was Terminator: Dark Fate in 2019. It was the first in which Cameron became fully involved since the premiere of the second part in 1991.
Unfortunately, the script and plot were relatively controversial and the direction of Tim Miller (Deadpool) It was irregular in some crucial aspects of its sequences, so it was not exactly a box office success.
