The subwaythe metropolitan railway network that has 12 lines to transport to people throughout CDMX and part of the State of Mexico, it also has a connection to other transport such as the Metrobús, the Cablebús and the Trolleybús.
Due to its cost, The metro is one of the most used transports by the inhabitants of the capital, where from 5:00 am to 00:00 it is open, making around 4.6 million of trips per day, according to reports from the Government of Mexico City, however, in recent weeks it has presented many failures in its system, causing annoyance among users.
In addition, the price of the subway ticket has been changing over the years, since previously it cost 3 pesos and then rose to 5, but in recent months it has been said that it will cost 10 pesos, which generates a lot of uncertainty and at the same time anger in users.
It should be noted that in 2021, two meters had a strong impact, leaving 23 dead and 103 injured, who were treated in different areas of hospitals in Mexico City; Until now line 12 where the events occurred, is still under renovation.
The CDMX Transportation and Highway Law Regulations do not establish any rules that specifically prohibit sleeping in the Metro. However, the regulation ensures that users of public transport must behave appropriately and respectfully with other passengers and with the staff of the Meter. Therefore, if someone is sleeping in a way that disturbs or interferes with other users, they could be warned or even evicted from the carriage by security personnel.
It is important to note that the rules and policies may vary from one city to another, so it is advisable to review the specific regulations of the local transport system. However, in Mexico City, there is no law that penalizes sleeping in the Metro.
It is possible that the confusion on this subject has arisen due to misunderstandings or isolated cases in which a conflict between a user who was sleeping in the Metro and security personnel has occurred. These cases may have given rise to rumors or misunderstandings about possible legal consequences.
Why can you go to jail?
The reality is that if you arrive at the last station of the route, you run the risk of entering the area of restricted access by users and for this you will be penalized, because according to article 29, section XI of the Civic Culture Law of the Mexico City, you will no longer be able to fall asleep in the CDMX subway cars.
