It is the never ending story.
The launch of the new generation consoles could not have been more eventful, since, far from being able to cover all the demand that fans of both brands, PlayStation and Xbox, require, we have been seeing stock problems even almost a year and a half after the launch of these platforms.
The reasons behind this fact are already quite well known, since it has joined the semiconductor crisis and other basic materials for the production of consoles together with the COVID-19 pandemic, which has added distribution problems. And if all this were not enough, the Russian conflict has also slowed down everything.
A reduction in console sales forecasts indicate that the lack of stock will continue
Given this, it must be said that both Phil Spencer and Jim Ryan, CEOs of Xbox and PlayStation respectively, reaffirmed at the time that these stock problems would be solved throughout 2022. However, it seems that reality is far from their expectations. affirmations, since everything seems to indicate that during this year the shortage of stock will remain.
This is because recently DFC Intelligence announced that has lowered its console sales forecast globally because access to supplies to produce these is worse than expected. In this way, they would have reduced their sales increase forecast from 8 to 4%, with a total of 49,000 million dollars.
Furthermore, the DFC even states that PlayStation 5 will be the most affected console, which has automatically caused many to hope that Xbox will reduce its difference with Sony’s platform, since Xbox Series S is not that difficult to produce. Despite this, PS5 remains the most desired console according to the surveys.
It remains to be seen what the outcome of this situation will be, since the success of Xbox Game Pass it’s moving Microsoft up the ranks at a breakneck speed that we wouldn’t have imagined years ago. It’s still early to say, but it remains to be seen if with the end of this generation we end up seeing Xbox sell more consoles than PlayStation for the first time in its history.
