Portable projectors have become increasingly popular thanks to their versatility and ability to generate large screens on any wall in the house. The team that we bring you today is capable of that, but has a different approach.
It is Splay of the company Arovia, a device that at first glance would seem like a kind of strangely designed umbrella but is actually a projector that has a built-in screen to become a secondary auxiliary monitor.
The idea is that we can always carry the projector with us and deploy the 24 inch screen when we need it, leaving it with a shape reminiscent of the old large CRT monitors and functioning in this case as a rear projection system with a weight of 1.1 kilos.
But the interesting thing about the equipment is that we can separate the part of the projector from this screen and press a button that changes the operating mode to have a classic front projection model capable of generating an image of up to 80 inch with a resolution Full HD (1080p).
It has image adjustment controls for setting the level of brightness and focus, but also for adjusting the volume level of your integrated speakers. In addition, a function has been incorporated to adjust the geometry of the image and facilitate installation in front of any wall at angles that are not perpendicular.
Connectivity is in charge of a HDMI port that we can use for external players and to connect mobiles. It also has a USB port which can also be used as an extra battery to recharge mobile phones or to power a device such as a Chromecast or an Apple TV, with an internal battery autonomy of up to 4 hours.
Price and availability
The Splay portable projector is seeking funding on Kickstarter and they expect to go on sale at a date yet to be determined for a price of $ 699.
