- Every year 33 ISSSTE workers train abroad.
- With the support of Conacyt, it seeks to increase the number of places offered for doctors to continue their training abroad.
- For this year it is intended to increase the offer of countries so that it is not focused on Spain.
In all areas of health, preparation never ends. Even after graduating from university, it is necessary to continue training to acquire new knowledge. To do so there are multiple options within our country. But now there will be more support to achieve it abroad. The announcement was made by Institute of Security and Social Services of State Workers (ISSSTE) by announcing that it will increase scholarships for its doctors.
In this case, it is all thanks to the fact that it resumed the relationship with international organizations that had been lost due to the pandemic. The objective is to strengthen cooperation in social security, health and academic activities to share research, experiences, good practices and achieve better levels of care.
The health emergency stopped international activity for more than two years. Instead, it is now restarting cooperation with the International Social Security Association (ISSA), the Ibero-American Social Security Organization (OISS) and the Inter-American Conference on Social Security (CISS), as well as multilateral organizations and social security institutions at the international level.
The director of ISSSTE, Pedro Zenteno, said that with international academic activities offered by foreign organizations or educational institutions, the specialization of medical and administrative personnel is managed.
For his part, the deputy director of International Relations of the Issste, Pavel Givert González Carreón, pointed out that the instruction is to seek different mechanisms that help strengthen international academic teaching for medical personnel and public servants who work in different areas such as pensions and economic benefits, as well as those who are dedicated to hospital administration.
Also, being part of the Ibero-American Cooperation Program on the Situation of Older Adults (Picspam), the institute will receive advice to deepen its knowledge of the situations of this sector in the region, in terms of demography, social protection, retirement, pensions and health, living conditions, social services and other rights.
González Carreón highlighted that the Issste was awarded this 2022 within the Humanization and Quality of Assistance or Services category. It is a recognition granted by the OISS for the “Primary Health Care” poster, through the Echoes for Well-Being strategy at the Hospital Clinic “Dr. Roberto Nettel” in Tapachula, Chiapas, a program that began approximately three years ago.
In addition, he stressed that there is interest from multilateral organizations to learn in depth and for their good practices the Issste programs: 3X1: For my health; Comprehensive Mental Health, Comprehensive Management of Diabetes by Stages (MIDE); Care for People with Disabilities; and Prevention and Regression of Overweight and Obesity (PPRESyO).
Also, vaccination strategies (not COVID), gerontological modules, the Automated Detection and Diagnosis Clinic (CLIDDA), and the “San Fernando” Specialized Clinic to care for patients with HIV, among others.
New agreement to increase scholarships for ISSSTE doctors
Regarding scholarships, he said that one of the objectives for this year is expand the international offer so that it is not focused on Spain. In addition to finalizing agreements for master’s degrees, doctorates and courses focused on social security and health in other countries. He pointed out that annually 33 workers from the institute train abroad.
Pedro Zenteno said that in terms of academic cooperation, the aim is to expand the international offer based on the needs and priorities of the institute, which has an agreement with the National Council of Science and Technology (Conacyt), so that medical personnel and public servants of the institute are trained and educated in institutions abroad.
He specified that to receive a scholarship it is necessary to meet the requirements established in the Conacyt and Issste calls. In any case, there is a commitment to repay the institute for the knowledge acquired, either through research or by sharing experiences through seminars, forums or workshops.
He stressed that academic offers can be financed by offering institutions or organizations and through the Issste-Conacyt agreement. You have the option of enrolling in technical specialization programs or courses or research stays; for both cases, the permanence varies from 10 days to a month. The support ranges from the payment of international airfare, to registration and maintenance.
