As part of the strategy for the rehabilitation and equipment of medical units of the new Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers (Issste) in the country, the rehabilitation work of the operating room of the Dental Specialties Clinic (CED) “Dr. Honorato Villa Acosta” and stands out because it is the only dental clinic for people with disabilities in Mexico.
The director of this clinic, Ángel Chávez Mendoza, reported that as a result of the supervision made by the head of the organization to this place, in October 2022, the rehabilitation of the facilities, furniture and equipment of this unit began, as well as the restructuring from all areas. The purpose is to optimize the use of resources and provide dignified and timely care to beneficiaries.
“He entrusted us in a special way with the rehabilitation of our operating room. It is a very important area because it is the only ISSSTE unit in the country that has a comprehensive dental care service for patients living with cerebral palsy, Down syndrome and other situations of intellectual or psychomotor disabilities”.

It is a benefit of the benefits that the institute has to meet the needs of beneficiaries with disabilities.
He pointed out that the rehabilitation works of the surgical area register progress of 80 percent. The walls were painted and the floor was changed, with germ-repellent, non-slip materials resistant to chemical agents and fungi. In addition, it was equipped with air conditioning equipment, lamps and medical gas outlets.
“To provide this care we have a team of highly specialized professionals in endodontics, periodontics, maxillofacial surgery and anesthesiology. The objective is to provide the best possible care in safe conditions, avoiding stress for patients and doing all dental repairs in one operating room session, with the participation of competent specialists”.
Characteristics of the dental clinic for people with disabilities
He specified that during the remodeling work of the surgical room, the service for people with disabilities has not been suspended and continues to operate with the support of the Institute’s Ambulatory Surgery Centerbelonging to the regional representation of the Northern Zone.
Currently, this specialized dental unit has 18 offices, equipped with 18 dental units, two red carts, two defibrillators, two anesthesia units, four dental radiological units, two orthopantomographs, two vacuum cleaners and two vital signs monitors.
Chávez Mendoza thanked the general director for the efforts to repair all the dental units that the ISSSTE Dental Specialties Clinic has, since in the first visit he made in April 2022 it was detected that only 30 percent of them were working properly. them and, currently, 100 percent is in optimal conditions to serve the rightful habitant.
