One of the pending issues in our country is the lack of investment in health. Although it is an item that benefits the whole society, there are not enough units nor do they have enough equipment to care for patients. Therefore, a favorable news is that the Institute of Security and Social Services of State Workers (ISSSTE) announced the construction of its first new hospitals in a decade.
During the appearance of its CEO, Pedro Zenteno Santaellabefore the Chamber of Senators, confirmed the expansion of the hospital infrastructure. For this purpose, a budget of 13 thousand 432 million pesos that will be useful for the benefit of one million 43 thousand 866 beneficiaries.
Where will the new ISSSTE hospitals be built?
Based on the planned six new hospitals of the ISSSTE system will be built in Baja California Sur, Chiapas, Coahuila, Guerrero, Jalisco and Tamaulipas.
The official highlighted that the last time an Institute hospital was built was in 2012 and it was the Regional Hospital of High Specialty in Veracruz. With this in mind, it is essential to expand the infrastructure to guarantee the human right to health.
“The institute has 7,264 registered beds, which represents 0.53 per thousand beneficiaries. Without a doubt, we receive the Issste with a significant deficit in this area; however, we are working to reduce it. With the 940 beds in the six new hospitals, we will reach 0.60 per thousand affiliates. We will continue on this course, seeking to cover everything that was left undone in past administrations.”
From the room of the Permanent Commission of the Senate of the Republic, Pedro Zenteno endorsed the commitment to work on the challenge of improving the resolution capacity of the institute, capturing the problem in each of the medical units and providing immediate alternative solutions.
“From December 2021 to October 2022, around 200 units have been visited in 19 state and regional representations. This, throughout 57 days of work tour, with a total of 3,930 findings to improve. 71 percent has been settled for the benefit of 7.7 million rights holders”.
Priorities for the ISSSTE
- Sufficient staff.
- Opening of additional shifts when necessary.
- Medication supply.
- Infrastructure sufficiency.
- Cover the need for maintenance, in addition to ensuring dental and laboratory services.
Only this year, the 2022-2024 unit strengthening program began, which projects carry out 17 expansion and remodeling works, with an approximate cost of two thousand 685 million pesos.
He added that the Institute has financial solvency because until August 2022 the balance of the Financial Reserves amounted to 116 thousand 387 million pesos, which represents an increase of 17.25 percent compared to the end of 2019.
Other recent achievements
In terms of actions for the recovery of debts, the institute managed to sign 11 Debt Recognition and Payment Method Agreements with institutions in Baja California Sur and Quintana Roo. As of August this year, the ISSSTE recovered a total of 530 million pesos, and so far there is a debt with the organization of 80 billion pesos.
The director general stressed that next year the registration of requests from the Issste Housing Fund (Fovissste) It will be carried out under the Continuous Registration scheme, whose objective is that the right holder acquires his home at the time he wishes, according to his circumstances and needs.
Finally, he said that in the last few months they have worked hard on the ISSSTE transformation with the slogan of less desk and more territory to provide beneficiaries with a quality public health service, guaranteeing the supply of medicines and with decent facilities.
