- The three new ISSSTE hospitals that are under construction are being built with their own resources.
- A total of 3,028 million pesos were allocated for the largest work.
- The hospitals will not be exclusive to beneficiaries because they will also serve the general population in the emergency area.
One of the main problems of the Mexican health system is the lack of investment. As a consequence, today there is a deficit of doctors and nurses. In the same way, the conditions of the hospitals are not optimal. Therefore, it is great news that the Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers (ISSSTE) announced the start of the construction of three new hospitals.
In this sense, another of the serious drawbacks that have prevailed for decades is that not all the works that begin reach their correct conclusion in due time and form. Sometimes they take longer than planned. In addition, they are not always completely equipped before their inauguration.
To put an end to this type of bad practice, the director of the ISSSTE, Pedro Zenteno, gave the details of the new hospitals that have already begun construction. There are three and it is the High Specialty Regional Hospital (HR) in Tlajomulco de Zúñiga, Jalisco; the General Hospital (HG) of Tampico, Tamaulipas; and the Hospital Clinic (CH) of Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, which are carried out with own resources.
Characteristics of each project
To the HPP of Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, 530 million pesos were assigned. It will have 20 census beds and will benefit 40,000 beneficiaries. It registers progress of 100 percent in the foundation and 15 percent in general. If there are no setbacks, it will be working in January 2024.
For him HR of Tlajomulco de Zúñiga, Jalisco, 250 censusable beds are projected, with an investment of three thousand 28 million pesos. It will cover 2.5 million members of the state, as well as Aguascalientes, Colima, Michoacán, Nayarit, San Luis Potosí and Zacatecas.
So far the foundations have been completed, so there will be no risk of delay due to the rainy season. Likewise, there is a 15 percent advance in general construction. It is projected to be delivered 100 percent working in March 2024.
The official highlighted the importance of this hospital including a hemodynamics area, because promptness saves lives and, by having this service, timely care is provided to patients with heart problems, since procedures such as: catheterization can be performed in this area emergency and scheduled, thus avoiding transfer to other hospitals that are hours away or even to Mexico City.
A hospital with a helipad
During the visit to the construction of the HG from Tampico, Tamaulipasthe general director asked the developers of the work to analyze with the aeronautical experts the possibility and feasibility of having a heliport —since the property is close to the airport and the military zone— to offer fast and expeditious attention in the transfer of patients.
The Tampico HG will have 150 censusable beds. It will provide care to 600 thousand beneficiaries of Tamaulipas and the Huastecas of Hidalgo, San Luis Potosí and Veracruz, for which two thousand 300 million pesos have been assigned to make three buildings, two with five levels and one with four, that is, a total of 55 thousand 30 m2.
He indicated that the new hospitals will serve the general population in case of a medical emergency, a substantive step to advance the integration of the Health sector and strengthen the institutions that have to do with social security.
