One of the many problems facing the Mexican health system is the shortage of doctors. Although it should also be noted that there is poor distribution in the country. This causes that in some areas the amount is even lower than the rest of the national territory. That is why the director of the Institute of Social Security and Services for State Workers (ISSSTE), Luis Antonio Ramírez, pointed out that there is a lot of work to be done.
Rural areas show more deficiencies
He said that faced with the challenge of strengthening health services, mainly in remote communities of the country due to the lack of personnel, the ISSSTE is implementing strategies with state doctors and with the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS). The objective is to exchange human resources that are needed and thus improve medical care.
“In the visits to each region that we have made in the country, the main challenge is the lack of personnel, since very few decide to work in clinics that are in the most remote areas. For this reason, I urge young doctors to develop their profession in communities far from cities with which they will help their rights and join the transformation of health services in Mexico ”.
During his visit, the general director of ISSSTE inaugurated the expansion of the Family Medicine Unit in Miahuatlán de Porfirio Díaz, Oaxaca, which will strengthen the care provided to 7,300 beneficiaries in the area. Currently, it has a dental office and service.
“The medical facilities we inherited are already vastly outnumbered by the size of the entitlement. That is why we have been carrying out extensions to strengthen the medical units, starting with the first-level ones ”.
Ramírez Pineda said that the visits he has made to each region in the country are part of the strategy of identifying needs and problems in order to establish specific solutions in each entity and thus respond to the people who deserve medical care with quality and warmth. .
And the safety of medical personnel?
However, one of the biggest complaints from doctors who must do social service or work in rural areas is the unsafety. The general opinion is that they cannot provide adequate service because they themselves do not feel good about the imminent risk they face every day.
It is because of the above that attacks against health professionals are frequent in these types of places. In many cases they are left alone in front of hospitals or health centers and therefore are left vulnerable to organized crime or the inhabitants themselves.
For this reason, even if you want to follow the recommendation of the ISSSTE director, you should also think about personal integrity. To be able to serve others, you must first be safe and fully.
