In August 2015, Capcom officially announced the development of Resident Evil 2 Remake, something that many users have been waiting for years, especially after the remake of the original Resident Evil, a title that was a success both in reviews and in sales. And the Japanese company took all the necessary time, showing the first trailer during E3 2018, where fans saw the incredible work that had been done. As we already know, Resident Evil 2 Remake was a success, opening the ban for other titles in the saga to receive their own remakes.
Resident Evil 3: Nemesis also received its remake, although this was not as well received due to its low replay value, its short duration and the elimination of classic phases from the original game. Even with everything, it was once again a sales success, and thanks to this strategy, Capcom right now has the part of the franchise in 1st person (RE7/RE Village) and on the other hand, the part in 3rd person (RE2 Remake/ RE3 Remake, etc…). And now, everyone is waiting for Capcom to finally officially announce Resident Evil 4 Remake, but many are wondering: Is there a chance to see Resident Evil Code Veronica remake?
We need to know more about Claire Redfield’s story
From the beginning, Resident Evil Code Veronica was conceived as the third numbered installment of the main saga, but Capcom changed his mind, leaving Code Veronica as a kind of secondary installment. Although secondary delivery has quite little, since the plot that is presented to us has a lot of weight in the whole saga (We will not go into spoilers, but it is vital to understand the events of the following titles).
Resident Evil Code Veronica is set three months after the events we see in the second and third installments of the franchise, and it would be a very understandable (and logical) move for Capcom to remake the title.. In Resident Evil 2 Remake, we are introduced to a Claire who is looking for her brother, and after what happened in Raccon City, many of us players who finished the story, we ask ourselves: What happens to the story of Claire and his brother? Well, Code Veronica would continue to develop that character arc that we saw, and it would be an “excuse” to develop a character as iconic and beloved as Claire Redfield, who already fell in love with us in the remake, much more.
Resident Evil 4 Remake will come first, and then… Who knows
It is known throughout the world that the next game that Capcom plans to launch on the market is the remake of Resident Evil 4, the game that completely changed the franchise (and in general, survival horror, serving as inspiration for titles like Dead Space) and the latest game directed by Shinji Mikami, creator of the saga. Many users have this chapter of the saga as their favorite, and we are (almost completely) sure that it will be a tremendous success in sales, as were the previous two remakes.
Therefore, after the release of this Resident Evil 4 Remake, the most logical thing would be to develop and launch the remake of Code Veronica, since thus we would have all the “classic” titles of the franchise with their respective modern versions, so that users who want to delve into the beginnings of the saga today can do so as comfortably as possible, without having to use emulators or plug in old consoles (although in the case of Xbox, backwards compatibility would suffice).
The remake of Code Veronica would give a lot of time to develop Resident Evil IX
It seems that Capcom will follow the strategy that it has followed since the release of Resident Evil 7, which is to release an installment starring Ethan Winters and others (the 1st person games) and then release two remakes (as they did with Resident Evil 2 and 3). In the end, what Capcom is looking for is to give each title a space, and for now, this strategy has worked more than well, as we have seen.
With a Resident Evil Village still very recent, and according to the opinion of the users, they seek to return to the classic formula of pure survival horror, leaving aside the action that we could see in the eighth installment, since without a doubt, many times it seemed more an action game than anything else (something that is not bad at all, since it was tremendously fun). But if Capcom seeks to continue remaking its classics, Code Veronica should be one of the next titles, since in addition to its importance in the saga, the game was really good, and a remake at the level of Resident Evil 2 would be a gift for the fans, since returning to Rockfort Island with Claire at the helm is something that many of us want to see, and more with the power of the RE Engine.
For users who really want to relive the story of Code Veronica, we leave you here the information so you can see the remake made by fans that will be released in 2022, and it will be worth trying it, since it is created with assets from Resident Evil 2/ 3 Remake though don’t forget this: it’s created by fans, not by Capcom.
