The design of both iPhones is practically the same. They have the same height and length dimensions, and the only difference is in thickness, iPhone 13 mini is 2mm thicker and 11 grams heavier.
Another aesthetic change is found in the camera moduleInstead of being placed vertically, Apple has chosen to put them diagonally. Up front, the most noticeable design change between iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 is the smallest notch.
The colors have changed slightly, Apple has included the Pink in the iPhone 13 range and the Black, White, Red and Blue have changed slightly. Purple and Green color disappear. Otherwise, both devices are practically the same. Straight edge design, with aluminum and glass as main materials.
Cameras
The cameras of the iPhone 13 maintain the same specifications. We have a 12 MP wide-angle sensor and ƒ / 1.6 aperture and a 12 MP ultra-wide sensor and ƒ / 2.4 aperture. We found a major change in the iPhone 13 with the arrival of the optical sensor shift image stabilization, although the main improvements are given by the software and the capabilities of the A15 Bionic chip.
These are the main improvements to the iPhone 13 camera:
- The wide-angle sensor captures 47% more light.
- The iPhone 13 has Smart HDR 4, an improvement over version 3 included in the iPhone 12.
- The iPhone 13 can record video at 60 fps HDR with Dolby Vision, the iPhone 12 stayed at 30 fps.
- Photo Styles: Settings that raise or lower colors while keeping skin tones natural.
- Cinema mode for shooting videos with a shallow depth of field.
Screen
Apple has kept the screen size on the iPhone 13, 6.1 inches in the normal model and 5.4 inches in the mini model. We continue to use OLED technology and the screen is still Super Retina XDR. Nevertheless, the screen of the iPhone 13 has improved in terms of quality, although it maintains most of its specifications.
The iPhone 13 maintains the same resolution and density of pixels per inch as in the iPhone 12, but increase maximum brightness by 28%, up to 800 nits. The iPhone 12 have a maximum brightness of 600 nits.
Battery
Last year the iPhone 12 did not make a major leap in terms of battery, however This year Apple has greatly improved the duration of both models, something interesting especially on the iPhone mini.
According to Apple data, the iPhone 13 mini has a day-to-day battery life of up to an hour and a half longer than the iPhone 12 mini. For his part, iPhone 13 improves autonomy in 2 and a half hours compared to its predecessor.

Power
Apple continues to improve the performance of its chips and A15 Bionic is positioned as the most powerful on the market. Although in this case the processor of the iPhone 13 Pro is slightly higher. These are the data that Apple offers:
- CPU up to 50% faster than the competition.
- Graphics up to 30% faster than the competition.
- The A15 Bionic chip is behind features like Cinema mode, Photo Styles, and Live Text.
Although in the day to day we will not notice a very different performance between the iPhone 13 and the iPhone 12, the A15 chip improves autonomy and offers us many of the exclusive functions of the new generation.
The iPhone 13 is an excellent device, which incorporates many interesting new features. However, if you already have an iPhone 12 it is unlikely that it is worth the jump to the new generation. If you have an older iPhone, betting on the iPhone 13 is insurance.
