It seems that it could take Apple another year to provide the iPhone with a screen that works at 120 Hz, as the iPad Pro screen has done for a long time. Many high-end Android smartphones also have a 120 Hz screen, but this improvement may not reach the iPhone 12, the new model that we expect Apple to present at the end of this year 2020. According to analyst Ross Young, it will be the iPhone 13 which, with a screen-based on low consumption LTPO technology, will have the possibility to dynamically vary the refresh rate to save battery life.
The Apple Watch already uses this technology on its screen, but for some reason they tell us that Apple will still wait another year before implementing it on the iPhone.
The refresh rate is very important because everything moves much more smoothly on the screen, especially interface elements and also video games. When the screen does not need to change the content displayed, the refresh rate can be lowered to save energy and thus increase battery life, but when necessary, the screen can be refreshed twice as fast as any iPhone model up to date. On the iPad Pro, the difference between a 120 Hz screen and one with a slower refresh rate is huge, but it’s something you have to experience in person to notice. Simply by moving the icons on the main screen from side to side, it feels much smoother and more fluid.
