When we are still savoring the bittersweet taste that the latest iPad Pro update left us, new rumors arrive that place a new tablet to replace it in the first half of the year 2021. It is a rumor hard to believe because Apple updates the iPad Pro every year and a half, and for that reason, the following model should not arrive until the end of the year 2021. Still, the specifications that this rumor brings us to sound very good to us.
- MiniLED screen. It is important not to confuse miniLED with microLED. This is another point that surprises a little in this rumor. MicroLED is supposed to be better than miniLED because it can achieve higher screen resolutions, although the iPad’s screen, being larger, could use miniLED instead of microLED, it’s hard to believe that Apple used miniLED only on iPad Pro for that reason, when it is supposed to be the most powerful iPad model and also the most expensive. This new miniLED technology is supposed to be better than the LCDs Apple currently uses on the iPad Pro, but so far Apple has always used OLEDs for the Apple Watch, LCDs and OLEDs for the iPhone, and only LCDs for any of the models. iPad.
- SoC A14X. The current iPad Pro, which has just been updated, uses an A12Z processor, an upgraded version of the A12X because it has a more functional core on its GPU. We all expected an A13X, but Apple preferred to continue with the A12 family. This new rumor would indicate a jump from the A13 to go directly to the A14, which is supposed to be the one with the iPhone 12 in a few months. An A14X would be a powered version of that same chip, probably running at higher clock speed, than that iPhone A14, as Apple has done in previous years.
- Snapdragon X55 modem that would allow connecting to 5G mobile phone networks.
The rumor comes in this case from two tweeters who tend to filter specifications of future Apple products quite correctly; @choco_bit tells us about the A14X, with model names J517 for the small iPad Pro model and J522 for the larger model.
