This year will be remembered for the coronavirus and its effects in practically all areas of society. One of the consequences of the virus is the ban on organizing massive events, and it is something that has directly affected Apple. The company had an event planned for June in which it would unveil iOS 14, iPadOS 14, watchOS 7, macOS 10.16 and tvOS 14., an event that has been delayed and will be held exclusively online.
However, that does not mean that the new operating systems will not be launched and introduced in June. Apple has announced that the inaugural keynote of WWDC 2020 will be held online on June 22 and in it we will see the new operating systems in action. But not only that, if the same thing happens in previous years, once the event ends, the company will publish the first betas for iOS 14 and the rest of the systems, and you can probably test them on your devices that same day.
On June 22, Apple will let developers test iOS 14, iPadOS 14, watchOS 7, macOS 10.16 and tvOS 14 betas, although it will not be difficult to install for any user. This means that there is very little left to test these new versions, of which we already know enough.
Everything we know about iOS and iPadOS 14, watchOS 7, macOS 10.16 and tvOS 14
iOS and iPadOS 14
Of IOS 14 and 14 iPadOS know quite a few things since an alleged iPhone 11 with a beta of the operating system sold for months with a lot of information. These are the main improvements that will come with iOS 14:
- New home screen with interactive widget-like icons.
- A new option to view apps in list mode.
- Enhancements to wallpapers, third-party backgrounds could be included in iPhone settings.
- The Messages app will incorporate many functions such as deleting sent messages, mentioning contacts in a chat or marking messages as unread.
- Two new apps are expected: an exercise app and an augmented reality app.
- The photos app will have integration with ‘Shot on iPhone’ contests.
- Our iPhone could be the key to our car thanks to CarKey.
- Xcode and Final Cut are expected to hit iPadOS.
But not only this, surely Apple has many more things and surprises up its sleeve, especially for iPadOS. Finally, iOS 14 is expected to be compatible with all devices that can install iOS 13.
watchOS 7
The Apple Watch operating system could also receive important improvements this year, some functions that you are sure you like have been leaked:
- News in the spheres: we will have new spheres available and we can share them with other users.
- New parental controls for kids with Apple Watch.
- A school mode that will allow parents to control what functions their children can use during specific hours.
- Improvements in apps that will no longer be extensions of the iPhone.
- Blood oxygen measurement, is something that we know will come but it is not clear if it will be only the Apple Watch Series 6 or also the rest of the models.
macOS 10.16 and tvOS 14
Finally, we have the new versions of macOS and tvOS of which we know practically nothing. MacOS 10.16 is expected to improve the problems that the current version has gone through and incorporate a Messages app based on that of iPadOS. From tvOS 14, we know absolutely nothing, although we do not expect major changes.
A very interesting end of the month awaits us with many news from Apple. Throughout the summer, the company will introduce improvements in iOS 14 and the rest of the systems to polish them for their launch. Normally it is usually in the month of September after the launch of the new iPhone, we will see if this year Apple follows a similar strategy.
