Apple released the first beta versions of the new iOS 14.5 and iPadOS 14.5 updates to developers tonight, a week after the release of the final iOS 14.4 update with bug fixes and feature updates. TvOS 14.5 is also available in beta.
A first beta for iOS 14.5
iOS 14.5 and iPadOS 14.5 can be downloaded through Apple’s Dev Center or directly if the appropriate profile has been installed on an iPhone or iPad.
iOS 14.5 is the update with which Apple will make mandatory its App Tracking Transparency privacy feature, which requires app developers to request a user’s permission to access their random advertising ID (known as IDFA) to track user activity on apps and websites.
In the future, when an application wants to access IDFA, users will see a prompt with the options “Allow tracking” or “Ask application not to track”. These features have already been implemented in iOS 14 and are available to developers (our iSoft app offers it since September 2020), but with iOS 14.5,
The “do not track” choice article will prevent the app developer from accessing the user’s IDFA, and developers will also have to respect the user’s tracking preferences and refrain from using other methods of tracking users. Failure to follow this rule could result in the removal of an app from the App Store. Tracking preferences can be managed by going to Settings> Privacy> Tracking.
