Other myths about instant soups debunked
On the other hand, several specialists have taken on the task of refuting other myths like Juan Aguilar, nutrition specialist who demystified some beliefs about the favorite ramen of Mexicans for the newspaper central.
Myth: Maruchan soup lasts 3 months in your body.
No food lasts that long in your body, nothing accumulates in your stomach for that long.
Myth: The Maruchan kills rats.
Verdict: False.
I’m not a vet, but Soup is unlikely to kill rats. because it does not contain any type of poison or substance such as arsenic that can take the life of an animal.
Myth: Maruchan causes cancer
Verdict: There is some truth to it.
This has more to do with an issue of how the soup is prepared. Many people use microwave oven to heat itHowever, when Styrofoam comes into contact with these radioactive heat waves, the glass secretes certain substances that, with constant consumption, can release carcinogenic precursors.
That’s why the label prohibits the use of microwaves as a means of preparation and Profeco itself specifies it in the study, but the problem is not in the soup, but in the way of cooking it and in the packaging”
Myth: Maruchan does not provide energy
Verdict: False.
Soup does provide fast-absorbing energy. Because it contains starches (very similar to sugar) the soup provides an energy rush that later causes a crash.
Myth: Maruchan causes tachycardia.
Verdict: True.
Prolonged and constant consumption of monosodium glutamate can cause headaches, nausea, dizziness and tachycardia. Profeco supports these conditions through the study, but these health problems occur only in people who consume soups two or more times a day, every day.
In addition, these types of carbohydrates can promote diseases in people with a history of diabetes or hypertension, childhood diabetes and obesity.
Mexico, the country that MOST consumes instant soups
According to Alejandra Contreras, food coordinator of The Power of the Consumer (EPC), Mexico is the second country in North America to consume Instant soupwith an increase of 43 percent in just four years.
Meanwhile, the World Instant Noodle Association indicated that Mexico is in the last position of the 15 countries Globally, they consume the most this type of product with a total of 1,160 million servings per year.
Our country ranks third in the statistics, behind the US, with 5.05 billion servings per year, and Brazil, with 2.7 billion servings per year.
This is how you should prepare instant soup to prevent it from being harmful
The Consumer Attorney General’s Office pointed out that some instant soups are packaged with Styrofoam, a material that when heated, which, as mentioned above, releases toxins that are harmful to humans.
He explained that it is very important to read the preparation instructions and check what material the container is made of.
If it is Styrofoam, he insisted that it is very dangerous to heat the water inside the container.
So the correct thing is to heat the water in a saucepan and then pour the contents of the soup.
Finally, consumers are recommended to buy soups with a waxed cardboard container and not Styrofoam, which is also a zero ecological product that takes up to 800 years to degrade.
