With the purpose of strengthening the prevention and timely detection of cancer in Mexico, the National Cancer Institute (INCan), will host the fourth edition of the Meeting for Integral Health. This year’s theme is “Cancer: with prevention and detection… we can beat it”, which will take place on June 2 and 3.
At the closing of the third edition of the International Meeting of Sciences, Arts and Humanities, which on this occasion was called “Strength, identity and diversity that unites us”, the director of INCan, Abelardo Meneses García, thanked the organizing committee headed by the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), the delivery of the post office to join the activities of dissemination of topics of national interest.
Meneses García specified that the organization of the fourth edition of the meeting, together with the UNAM, represents “a symbol of the commitment we have acquired to prevent and diagnose oncological diseases.”
What will the meeting consist of?
Artistic and academic activities will be carried out focused on prevention, early detection, the importance of specialized medical care and the dissemination of scientific and humanistic knowledge.
Recognitions will also be given to cancer survivors. In addition, the mural Light, life and love will be presented. The conversation “My experience with cancer, a success story” will also be held, in which people who have overcome the disease will participate.
In addition, INCan specialists will give lectures on prostate, hereditary and breast cancer. Topics such as fear of recurrence and management of emotions will also be addressed. There will be workshops for the correct examination of the breasts, emotional intelligence, prevention of complications associated with treatment, correct administration of medications at home, nutritional factors and lifestyle for prevention.
In addition, artistic presentations, musical concerts from external institutions and invited groups are included.
Cancer prevention in Mexico is essential because 195,000 new cases are diagnosed each year and the trend is increasing. It is also the third leading cause of death in the country. What is the future panorama of tumors in Mexico?
Now, based on the International Agency for Research on Cancer that belongs to the World Health Organization (WHO), It is estimated that by 2040 the number of new cases registered in our country will increase by 65%. If it materializes then the figure would reach 323 thousand people.
It also mentions that of all types, breast cancer remains the deadliest in our country. According to the records, it was responsible for 7,931 deaths during 2020, followed by colorectal cancer with 7,755. While the prostate caused 7,457 deaths.
