This September the delivery of refunds or stimulus checks in different states of the American Union. Know where the deliveries will be made, amounts and requirements.
Benefit amounts vary depending on each state and the number of family members. In Washington, for example, they will give tax credits of up to US$1,200 per family; while in Minnesota, the Department of Revenue has already begun sending direct tax refund payments for the 2021 tax year to eligible residents. In New Mexico, on the other hand, they will give help even to non-taxpayers. Find out the details below:
1. Washington State
The Washington State Working Families Tax Credit is a sales tax refund for low- and moderate-income residents who meet certain requirements. The deadline to request the benefit is December 31.
The amount ranges from US$300 to US$1,200, depending on the number of children who qualify and the income level. Look at the picture:
Requirements
To receive the Tax Credit for Working Families, these requirements must be met:
- Have a Social Security Number (SSN) or a Valid Taxpayer Personal Identification Number.
- Have lived in Washington for at least 183 days in 2022 (more than half a year). Consult the question and answer for more information.
- Be between 25 and 65 years old. Those who have a qualifying child in 2022 are also eligible.
- Have submitted the federal tax return corresponding to the year 2022.
- Be eligible to apply for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) federal on your 2022 tax return.
Minnesota
In the state of Minnesota, since August, residents have been receiving financial aid of up to US$1,300 (a couple with three dependents), as part of a tax refund program that was approved in 2022. The amounts will vary according to the situation of each family.
- US$520 for married filing jointly with an adjusted gross income of US$150,000 or less.
- US$260 for all other people with adjusted gross income of US$75,000 or less.
- Another US$260 for each dependent claimed on your return, up to three dependents (US$780).
Requirements
You are eligible if:
- You resided in Minnesota for part or all of 2021.
- You filed one of the following returns before December 31, 2022: 2021 M1 FormIndividual Income Tax/ 2021 M1PR FormHomestead Credit Refund (for Homeowners) and Renter’s Property Tax Refund.
- 2021 adjusted gross income was $150,000 or less for married joint filers; or US$75,000 or less for all other taxpayers.
- You were not claimed as a dependent on someone else’s 2021 Minnesota income tax return.
Note: This payment is not subject to tax on your Minnesota income tax return and will not be taken to pay any outstanding taxes or debts we collect for other agencies.
3. New Mexico
Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham of New Mexico implemented refunds for New Mexico taxpayers, as well as economic relief payments to residents who are not required to file taxes. This benefit has been provided since June and can be requested until May 2024.
- Married couples filing jointly are eligible for a $1,000 tax refund.
- Individuals who file separate tax returns, whether single or married, are also eligible for a $500 refund.
- Relief payments for New Mexico residents who do not qualify for the above refunds. In this case, the amount has not yet been determined.
Requirements
- New Mexicans must have filed a 2021 return by May 31, 2024.
- They are not declared as dependents on another taxpayer’s return.
