According to the document “Pediatric Duodenal Atresia”, Congenital duodenal atresia is one of the most common intestinal anomalies treated by pediatric surgeons, occurring in 1 in 5,000 to 10,000 births.
The minor is currently 9 years old and is in the 4th grade of primary school.
The Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS), has shared a statement on social networks where they celebrate the good work done by the General Hospital of Zone No. 2 of Chiapas after early detection and the correct performance of procedures that saved the life of a minor.
The name of the minor is Eleisa Gómez Pérez, 9 years old, originally from Pijijiapan, Chiapas, born at 35 weeks of gestation, suffering from type 3 esophageal atresia and duodenal atresia.
Both ailments were treated by doctors from the General Hospital of the Zone (HGZ) No. 2, from the IMSS Chiapas, and from the High Specialty Medical Unit (UMAE) Hospital de Especialidades “Dr. Bernardo Sepúlveda Gutiérrez”, from the Siglo XXI National Medical Center (CMN).
According to the official IMSS statement, Thanks to early detection and specialized surgical care by IMSS doctors, the minor Eleisa Gómez Pérez, overcame the two congenital conditions to currently lead a daily life.
The head of Pediatrics and Pediatric Surgery at HGZ No. 2, Dr. Daniela Miranda López, added that “at this hospital care was provided for the two congenital conditions. In the case of duodenal atresia, intestinal transit was restored, so that the patient was able to eat on the tenth day after surgery. On the other hand, for type 3 esophageal atresia, an esophagostomy and a gastrostomy were performed. Then, the restitution of the upper digestive tract was carried out through an interposition of the esophagus by colon.
In addition, he explained that, due to the conditions, Eleisa, who was born prematurely, had a higher risk of morbidity and mortality, so her case is considered successful due to the good initial management given to her, since she recovered the nutritional condition.
The doctor explained that this is a success story of the IMSS because with Eleisa the objective of the patient to reintegrate into society was met, that he be equal to any boy or girl of his age, that he play, that he do sports activities and that he have a normal life.
After early detection and specialized surgical treatment, medical personnel from the #IMSS Save the life of a Chiapas girl.
