- The WHO affirms that every year 300,000 minors are diagnosed with some type of tumor.
- The digital card allows viewing upcoming appointments, treatments, surgeries and monitoring the health of children with cancer.
- In order to view this information, a prior registration must be made by the Social Work of the medical unit where the minors receive care.
With the explosion of the internet, a radical change has been achieved in all areas of life. One of the consequences has been the gradual abandonment of paper and with this in mind the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS) created the first digital card for the care and follow-up of children with cancer. In this way, it also seeks to speed up processes for the benefit of a better service.
According to what was disclosed, this new document is granted to the mothers, fathers, tutors or caregivers of pediatric oncology patients who are cared for in medical facilities. One of its benefits is that it can be consulted from any device with an internet connection at any time.
The IMSS reported that through this digital tool, caregivers of pediatric oncology patients will be able to view upcoming appointments, treatments, surgeries, and follow-up on the health of minors from their cell phones, tablets, or computers.
How do you obtain the digital card for children with cancer?
In order to view this information, a prior registration must be made by the Social Work of the medical unit where the minors receive care.
When registering with Social Work at the Medical Care Unit, the mother or father will receive an email with the username and password, that is, these credentials are not defined at the time of registering with Social Work.
Once the registration is done, the parents, tutors or caregivers of the patients will be able to enter the following link to enter the CURP and password registered by Social Work.
Subsequently, they will be able to view and learn about the minor’s treatment history and have access to the information 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
The Digital Card is only available, for now, for pediatric patients diagnosed with cancer and undergoing treatment at the IMSS, where an improvement in the quality of information and efficiency in treatment procedures is provided.
This digital tool also has existing cycles on certain dates to know in detail the period that you want to consult.
childhood cancer today
Just to get an idea of this situation, the The World Health Organization (WHO) states that each year 300,000 minors are diagnosed with some type of neoplasia. The figure is quite high and the most alarming thing is that many of the patients develop discomfort that lasts for the rest of their lives.
According to the health agency, in high-income countries more than 80 percent of childhood cancer cases are cured. By contrast, in low- and middle-income nations the cure rate is about 20 percent.
Panorama in Mexico
According to the Ministry of Health (SSa), between 50 and 60 percent of pediatric patients manage to overcome the disease. This figure is higher than the average in Latin America, where it barely reaches 30 percent, according to data from the National Center for Child and Adolescent Health (Censia) of the Ministry of Health.
In general, the chances of cure are greater in girls and boys than in adults, because 50 percent of cases during childhood are due to acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a type of cancer with a high chance of being cured because it is less aggressive. .
