One of the highest priorities of the current administration is to offer medical care to people with fewer resources and without social security. For this purpose there is Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) Well-being and just today the name of its new director was announced.
After an internal notation, the H. Technical Council of the IMSS unanimously approved the appointments of the doctors Manuel Cervantes Ocampo, as holder of the IMSS-Wellness Program. In addition, Miriam Victoria Sánchez Castro and Misael Ley Mejía were also appointed to lead the Decentralized Administrative Operation Bodies (OOAD) in the Eastern State of Mexico and Nayarit, respectively.

Academic and professional career of the new IMSS director
Manuel Cervantes Ocampo studied the degree of Surgeon and Midwife at the University of Guadalajara and has a specialty in Family Medicine by the IMSS. In his extensive institutional career, he has been director of the General Zone Hospital (HGZ) No. 42, in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco; National Coordinator of First Level Units; member of the Federal Government Vaccination Technical Advisory Group; Roadrunner of Mexico City for the Vaccination Strategy against COVID-19; as well as in charge of the OOAD of Chiapas.
Some of its achievements to highlight are: the Strengthening and Renewal of the Family Medicine Model; the Preventive Model for Chronic Diseases and the implementation of the Ambulatory Metabolic Control Unit, among others. During his performance as manager of the IMSS Representation in Chiapas, he it strengthened the supply with 98 percent of prescriptions filled and the entity went from 15th to 5th place in efficiency.
Other IMSS appointments
For her part, the Dr. Miriam Victoria Sánchez Castroentered the IMSS in 2003, was part of the first opposition contest for the Ownership of the OOAD and headed, from February 2020 to date, the ownership of the Social Security Representation Office in Yucatán.
Sánchez Castro has extensive experience and institutional experience by holding positions as coordinator of the Medical Programs of the Management Support Division in High Specialty Medical Units (UMAE), medical director of Regional Hospitals No. 200 in Tecámac; of Zone General No. 68 in Tulpetlac and Zone General No. 197 in Texcoco, all in the State of Mexico, in addition to participating in Operation Chapultepec during the most critical moment of the COVID-19 pandemic.
At the same time, Misael Ley Mejia He is a Surgeon and Midwife from the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN), with a specialty in Medical Pediatrics, held at the General Hospital “1° de Octubre”. He has experience in health services in the state of Nayarit, in medical and administrative management, highlighting his performance as head of Medical Benefit Services, Prevention and Health Care coordinator, among other coordinations.
It has multiple courses in public health for First and Second Level of care, diplomas and workshops endorsed by Social Security, training in strategies to improve the performance and operation of the Ambulatory Care Medical Units (UMAA). In Social Security, she has 32 years of experience and her most recent position was head of the OOAD of the IMSS Estado de México Oriente.
