Hospital infrastructure is the foundation of health and resources should never be skimped on. The current situation caused by the pandemic showed that units are needed throughout the country to attend to the population that requires it. With this in mind, The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) announced the construction of an ambitious hospital.
In this way the hospital will also fulfill other functions. It is not only about providing service to the beneficiaries but also increasing jobs for health professionals. In addition, it will also be the “school” for hundreds of residents from all over the country.
Characteristics of the new IMSS hospital
In this case, the new Regional General Hospital (HGR) will be built in Ensenada, Baja California. According to forecasts, it will serve 323,000 people and will have, in a first stage, 144 beds. Later, it is scheduled to increase to 260. The project will be developed on 7.6 hectares and includes a Family Medicine Unit (UMF) with 14 offices and a Social Security Center.
During the press conference led by the governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, the general director of the IMSS, Zoé Robledo, reported that The project will have 33 medical specialties, 8 general and ambulatory surgery rooms. In addition, 4 X-ray rooms and one for tocosurgery, 40 beds in the Emergency room and 16 in the Intensive Care Unit, CT scanner, mastograph, ultrasound, areas for dialysis, hemodialysis and chemotherapy, among others.

He said that by May or June of this year there will be a ruling on the bidding for works. In such a way that by July or August construction begins. In addition, a citizen committee will be integrated that will monitor and carry out a social comptroller to know the progress.
Other projects to increase the IMSS hospital infrastructure
On the other hand, Zoé Robledo reported on the progress of the expansion of the Rural Hospital No. 69 of San Quintín, of IMSS-Bienestarand indicated that this is one of the most decisive, since it has the five main specialties and three more: Traumatology, Ophthalmology and Otorhinolaryngology.
He stressed that the hospital went from 30 to 60 beds and the shelter was expanded, unique in the country because it separates women, pregnant women and men.
He said that currently the work of one more operating room is being carried out in the hospital, there will be a new tomograph, ultrasound services and tocosurgery areaas well as three new humanized delivery beds, which will dramatically increase the capacity for obstetric care.
The general director of the IMSS highlighted that new infrastructure, maintenance of units are being planned in the entity, and the number of beds and consultation hours are being expanded, in addition, the Mixture Center will be opened soon so that the IMSS has the rectory for the preparation of antibiotics. . Likewise, he said that in the first week of March the first shot will be fired at the new linear accelerator in Tijuanawhich will be the Institute’s 28th in the country, to have resolution capacity for radiotherapy treatments.
Added to the above are the agreements so that all beneficiaries have better access to organ donation and transplants, innovative schemes for the prevention of addictions, the state program for free cataract surgeries to restore sight to the elderly and the full coverage of vaccination against Covid-19, the performance of breast reconstruction surgeries for women cancer survivors, among other actions.
