The H. Technical Council of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) authorized the donation from the Michoacán government of the complex called “Business Center in Ciudad de Tres Marías, Morelia” where a Data Center will be installed. The objective is to strengthen their capabilities and autonomy to host databases, streamline service to beneficiaries, employers, pensioners, and the general public.
During the ordinary session of the Technical Council, which was held in the Business Center in Ciudad Tres Maríasthe general director of the IMSS, Zoé Robledo, pointed out that the intention of the Institute is to have greater stewardship by having a Government Data Centerin a place where the information has an adequate safeguard and in security conditions.
“In the search for these spaces, we found that this area is precisely aimed at Information Technology issues, but also contact centers (…) in this area other companies, large organizations, have had these processes because they found in this place a optimal condition.
He also highlighted that a Contact Center addresses issues from different regulatory areas “and we believe that this property meets those requirements and also as a first step in the stages that we have identified for the purpose of decentralization.”
For his part, the Director of Administration of the IMSS, Borsalino González Andrade, reported that on July 13 the Governor of Michoacán, Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla, offered the donation of the property, located at Avenida Alfredo Zalce No. 3485, in the city of Morelia. Through an official letter in which he expressed his willingness to carry out the procedures corresponding to the guidelines approved by the Technical Council for the acceptance and receipt of donations in favor of the Institute.
He indicated that the Department of Innovation and Technological Development (DIDT) requested the enabling a space for the operation of a Data Centerin order to promote the use and exploitation of information technology, digital government, information and communication technology, as well as the security of the Federal Public Administration.
The other locations of the IMSS Data Center
González Andrade explained that the IMSS currently has two Data Centers located both in Mexico City and in Monterrey, Nuevo León. They are operated by third parties in IMSS facilities and with more than 20 years of operation that have led to obsolescence and technological lag, “these are conditions that do not make it viable to continue with their operation and this concern leads us to link this project with the donation of the property”.
He stressed that the property donated by the Michoacán government is useful for DIDT’s requirement. It has spaces suitable for Installation of the Data Center and eventually the Contact Center“we also consider that it is ideal to deal with without the need for larger jobs that represent a lot of resources for its installation”.
He explained that after accepting this donation, the next steps are the formalization of this requirement through the Infrastructure Coordination, to validate the property and its construction. Subsequently, the Decentralized Administrative Operation Body (OOAD) of the Institute in Michoacán will integrate the real estate file, the Legal Department will issue the legal opinion to finally formalize the donation by the OOAD in the entity.
At the time, the head of the DIDT, Claudia Vázquez Espinoza, explained that the project includes the installation of the Contact Center, which is in a bidding process for the service, which was authorized by the IMSS Technical Council in 2021so that the service is given in the facilities and with the authorized budget, which includes the remodeling and adaptation according to the institutional image.
He added that regarding Data centerthe parts that are in the IMSS offices on Tokio Street, Mexico City, and Monterrey will be migrated.
