- The union of the IMSS and ISSSTE has the objective of providing medical care to patients regardless of the Institution of which they are beneficiaries.
- Oaxaca could be one of the 10 states where resources are earmarked to build a general hospital.
- So far the entity has 41 first-rate medical units.
During the work tour of Oaxaca, the general director of the Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers (ISSSTE), Pedro Zenteno Santaella, spoke with the head of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), Zoé Robledo Aburto. The objective was to specify the exchange of health services between both organizations and benefit the population.
Increase medical care for beneficiaries
When touring the Family Medicine Units (UMF) of Guelatao de Juárez and Miahuatlán de Porfirio Díaz, and the Family Care Clinic (CAF) of Tlacolula de Matamoros in Oaxaca, he added that with this type of agreement the service is enhanced, since he ISSSTE provides care to IMSS beneficiaries where it does not have medical units and vice versa.
He advanced that Oaxaca may be one of the 10 states where the institute leaves labeled resources -by the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP)— to build a general hospital, even with the change of administration, for which it is planned to start works in the last quarter of 2024.
These actions seek to provide quality assistance, reducing waiting times, strengthening the response capacity; with sufficient personnel, medicines, dental service and laboratory, for which work is being done to improve facilities and equipment at the three levels of care.
Current hospital infrastructure in Oaxaca
He recalled that Oaxaca has 41 first-level medical units, 20 of which are included in the comprehensive maintenance program; seven from second and one from third. Here 18 ambulances have been received for the benefit of 500 thousand 273 patients.
At the UMF Guelatao de Juárez —where 2,864 beneficiaries have coverage— the head of the ISSSTE verified that comprehensive maintenance had already been received, which consisted of waterproofing and painting; bathroom and floor rehabilitation; electrical and air conditioning installation for the pharmacy area.
He listened to the concerns and suggestions of the medical, nursing and administrative staff, as well as the beneficiaries, for which reason he decided to allocate an ambulance to this place and carry out an executive project to expand it.
During the tour of the CAF Tlacolula de Matamoros, which serves 4,707 beneficiaries in rented facilities, Pedro Zenteno asked the staff of the institute’s representation in the state to establish contact with the municipal president to evaluate the possible donation of a property to build a UMF.
In the last point of the tour of the entity, the general director visited the UMF Miahuatlán of Porfirio Díaz. There he authorized a dental unit, a dentist, a nurse, the expansion to two shifts and an examination table. In addition, he instructed that on Wednesday, June 21, the air conditioning works 100 percent, for the benefit of the 7,695 members.
He reiterated that the inspections have the main objective of supervising and evaluating the operation of the facilities, as well as interacting with medical personnel and ISSSTE beneficiaries; listen to concerns, suggestions and take the necessary actions in the short, medium and long term to solve the problems identified.
