When we thought that it was impossible for the Swedish giant to surpass himself after what he did with Virgil Abloh, he goes and surprises us. The KARISMATISK collection with English designer Zandra Rhodes is the most colorful and fun Ikea collection to date. What we need right now: a boost of energy.
Signature items at prices low cost that we expect to sell out like Virgil’s and go to the resale market for a price much higher than the initial price. And it is that with them it is possible to get houses very easily cool.
For those who do not know her, Zandra Rhodes is one of the most recognized designers in England. An international fashion icon for more than 50 years, she has dressed characters such as the Princess of Wales, Jackie Kennedy and Diana Ross, among many others, and is recognized for her original textiles.
Now, together with Ikea, he launches a repertoire of household items designed to give our lives a little more color. A midpoint between the functional and the fabulous that has conquered us from minute one. Perfect for automatically leveling up the decor of any home. And to lose fear of mixing and matching.
26 decoration items arriving in IKEA stores from September 1 and they advocate for homes to be an expression of who we are. From cushion covers and rugs, to vases, chandeliers, lighting and storage solutions, among others. All awash in vibrant colors and prints. Because, as Zandra emphasizes, “there are never too many colors or too many patterns.”
Its pink and ruffled version of the mythical Ikea bag, a steel screen and the mirror with stylized faces that Zandra has been drawing since the 70s deserves special attention. Although the designer’s favorite item is the stocking-shaped pillow moon that looks like a dumpling.
In a press conference that Ikea has offered with her, she explained that “it is the type of collection from which by taking just one item you can give a fresh touch to your life or you can take several and transform everything.”
But still he has encouraged everyone to play with his designs, “the things in my life and in my house do not have to combine. The best combination is the absence of this.”
She has Ikea shelves around her house painted blue and yellow and she can’t wait to put all the collection pieces in her house. “I want to put all the cushions on my sofa, like it’s a rainbow, and all the boxes in my bedroom.”
And is that the designer believes in that house coaching, making changes in spaces through our emotions. “I associate colors with different moods.” And she is sure that her collection will make people smile, “bright colors make you feel better”, which makes her immensely happy. “I love making people happy, that gives me a reason to keep designing.”
The collection also includes pre-cut recycled cotton and polyester fabrics that we can use as a home textile or to create the creation of our dreams. In addition, they all have a cut-out caftan template (one of the garments that the designer wears the most).
“The caftan is so easy to create with two side seams, a hem, and a neck opening. It really is impossible to get it wrong, and sewing it is fun for everyone!” Says Zandra.
The prices of the products are very competitive. To give you an idea, the bag costs two euros, the packs of two fabrics cost 30 euros, the cushions from eight to 25 euros and the mirror 15 euros. The most expensive items are a pack of three rugs that costs 89 euros, the screen (49 euros) and a blanket with beige floral motifs (40 euros).
