Finally a way to learn about the history of Dark Souls.
The truth is that the Dark Souls series is known more for its twisted difficulty and game design than for its story, since From Software does not usually use narrative in a common way. Instead of big dialogues, cutscenes, side quests, etc., the Japanese team prefers hide practically all the lore of the game in the description of the objects and give the player freedom to explore the story at their own pace. For those who do not have so much patience, there is a solution, Dark Souls will soon have two books that compile all his history.
The thing is that they are not official publications of From Software, but a project of Lokey, a true Dark Souls archivist who has his own YouTube channel and a website full of information about FromSoftware’s work, including Bloodborne. Lokey has announced that it will soon put up for sale a two-volume compendium of Dark Souls called the Abyssal Archive.
This compendium will contain two 7×10-inch hardcover books that will come with a slipcase and will feature a gold finish on the top edge of the pages. Inside we can enjoy a foldout map of lordran created by artist Judson Cowan and 17 full color illustrations by Juan Acosta. It will arrive in three different editions with prices that range between 180 and 495 dollarsand can be booked right now until August 14.
The problem with these types of builds is that as much as FromSoftware hides little bits of narrative throughout the game, there isn’t a thread that ties it all together and tries to make sense of it. that’s where it comes in the gaming community and the sheer number of fan theories that have emerged over the years. Among all of them, Lokey is considered one of the best “historians” of Dark Souls, since he has studied even the Japanese texts of the original version of the From Software games.
The future of FromSoftware
After the enormous success of Elden Ring, it remains to be seen what From Software’s next project will be. While it is rumored that he could be working on DLC content for Elden Ring, the team recently confirmed that they are working on multiple projects. One of those projects would be a new Armored Core.
