‘El caballero verde’ premiered this Thursday, October 28 in Spain by the hand of Amazon. It is a pity that in our country it has not been released on the big screen, but at least we have not had to wait any longer to see the acclaimed film written and directed by David lowery, whose final sure it gives much to talk about.
Beware of the SPOILERS of the film from here
Lowery himself has had no problem commenting on the matter in a talk with USA Today, clarifying, for example what was your goal with that outcome, what response do you hope to elicit from viewers:
I hope that the audience ends with a smile on their lips and the feeling that it really is a happy ending. I wanted to make it feel like this character has come to the place where he needs to be, despite what happens to him after the movie cuts to black.
We all die
In addition, the author of ‘A Ghost Story’ has also influenced the decision to close the story just after the green knight comments “Now say goodbye to your head“to the character played by Dev patel it’s totally intentional, as I didn’t want to make it clear:
I didn’t want to impose my vision because it doesn’t matter. He is going to die one day. Maybe his head will be cut off then, maybe he will die of old age later. But he is going to die. We all die.
What is important is that we know that we are becoming the best that we can be, that we are living our lives with goodness and integrity, with a sense of justice that is not defined by greatness or legacy, but by our personal sense. Of value.
What do you think happens at the end of the film, does it cut off his head or not? Personally, I think it was a wise move to leave it that way and also that the character arc is complete by the time he agrees to fulfill his end of the deal. Mind you, it’s almost better if they actually cut off his head before he can go back to being corrupted for one reason or another.
