After being run over by that film steamroller titled ‘Dune’, there were many of us who were not very clear that the adaptation of Frank Herbert’s novel directed by Denis Villeneuve was going to continue in a ‘Part Two’; and is that the narrative and tone of the film did not seem digestible enough as if to translate into a box office win.
There are no two without three
After the successful premiere in the United States, which exceeded expectations marking a gross collection of $ 40 million, the sequel to the space epic received the green light from Legendary Entertainment; but it seems that Mr. Villeneuve is one of those people to whom they offer their hand and end up taking their entire arm.
As he told Entertainment Weekly, French-Canadian filmmaker already has ‘Dune Messiah’ in mind, a third installment that would adapt the first literary sequel that Herbert’s work received and that he would like to shoot after ‘Part Two’.
“I’ve always envisioned three movies. Not that I want to do a franchise, but this is ‘Dune,’ and ‘Dune’ is a huge story. To do it honor, I think you’d need at least three movies. That would be the dream. Following Paul Atreides and completing his arc would be nice. “
After all that I enjoyed at the cinema with the first film, which offered me an audiovisual experience of those that are not forgotten —And one of those that, probably, we see less and less frequently—, I will not be the one who opposes Denis Villeneuve returning to Arrakis and surroundings as many times as he wants. Of course, history to move to the big screen, there is a long time.
