Hyundai has unveiled a major new concept model to show the world the keys to future electric cars that will become part of the high-performance N sub-brand. The new Hyundai RN22e is a concept car created on the basis of the recently introduced IONIQ 6.
After several leaks and official previews, we can say that the wait is over. The new Hyundai RN22e has been presented in society. Hyundai has been working on a very important concept model that we should pay close attention to. The reason? This concept car that has burst onto the scene in style tells us what the future of the high-performance N sub-brand will be.
The future of hyundai N sports cars it passes, inevitably, through sustainable mobility. Electrification at its highest level and hydrogen will play a leading role. For the creation of the new RN22e, the recently presented IONIQ 6 has been taken as a starting point. This is a 100% electric battery-powered vehicle dressed in the “suit” of a sports car.
The keys to the new Hyundai RN22e
Hyundai highlights that the RN22 is the first “rolling laboratory” of the N sub-brand developed on the e-GMP platform. It shows the vision and direction of the sports car line in the field of electrification while opening the possibility for the future marketing of a high-performance electric model. A model that, as we will see later, points directly to the hypothetical IONIQ 6 N.
The exterior design of the IONIQ 6 has been adapted. The RN22e takes advantage of the aerodynamic characteristics of the aforementioned electric. To maximize performance, Hyundai N has added new elements inspired by the world of competition. The lower part of the bumper has been redesigned and, obviously, a huge rear spoiler has been installed.
The measures of the new Hyundai RN22e
The South Korean manufacturer’s engineers have made some adjustments to optimize the behavior of the RN22e on the track. It is equipped with four-piston monoboloque calipers and 400mm discs. It also has technologies that we will see in future electric N. A clear example is the N Sound+ system, which generates sound from the interior and exterior speakers for a more dynamic driving experience.
The autonomy of the new Hyundai RN22e
Beyond the exterior design and technological equipment, as it is an electric car, the propulsion system is the focus of attention. The “heart” of Hyundai’s new concept car is a 77.4 kWh lithium-ion battery
whose main objective is to feed two electric motors that develop a total combined power of 430 kW (585 hp) and 740 Nm of maximum torque.
Equipped with an electric motor per axle, the RN22e enjoys an all-wheel drive configuration. The autonomy exceeds 600 kilometers and the maximum speed is more than 250 km/h. In addition, the platform on which it is built allows a fast multi-charging capacity of 400 V and/or 800 V. Using a fast charging point, it is possible to complete the charging process from 10% to 80% in less than 18 minutes. .
The prelude to the Hyundai IONIQ 6 N?
At this point it is crucial to ask a determining question, Is the RN22e the prelude to the future IONIQ 6 N? The truth is that Hyundai has not directly indicated that this concept model advances a high-performance N variant of the new IONIQ 6. However, and taking into account all the characteristics and that the recently presented IONIQ 6 has been used as a base, everything points in that direction. What Hyundai has confirmed is that the long-awaited IONIQ 5 N will be a reality sometime next year in 2023.
