In the second case, we have a multi-award-winning novel by the Veracruz author Fernanda Melchor. Here we tell you everything you need to know about the film Hurricane season.
What is it about?
Published in 2017 by Random House publishing house, Hurricane season established Fernanda Melchor as one of the most outstanding writers of her generation. Her second novel was a critical and commercial success, in addition to being a finalist for the prestigious International Booker Prize in 2020.
Set in the fictional town of La Matosa, our story begins with the femicide of a woman with the profession of Witch, to whom the residents of that rural area always turned for help, with a mixture of respect and fear. Starting from that crime, the work immerses us in the life of a place plagued by misery and abandonment, exploring the machismo and violence that permeates Mexican society, along with the darkest eroticism and sordid power relations.
Netflix provides the following official synopsis:
“When a group of teenagers discover a body floating in a canal, the reality behind this brutal murder reveals the dark secrets of the town where they live.”
