HUMAN Impact Projects is a new initiative designed to enable academic research institutions and early-stage machine learning startups to scale and monetize their services. This was reported from HUMAN Protocol, through its official blog.
“HUMAN Protocol offers these projects access to high-quality, low-cost data annotation provided by a broad group of respondents. In this way, HUMAN Protocol offers projects the opportunity to become profitable companies themselves”, they stated in the blog post.
Consequently, it is hoped that this initiative can enable machine learning projects to create more powerful and useful products, make new discoveries, and ultimately realize their potential.
partners
As specified from HUMAN, they have already started working with the following list of partners:
Salk Institute for Biological Studies
The Salk Institute is a research institute dedicated to discovering cures for many diseases and ailments. It houses a team of internationally acclaimed and award-winning scientists. Insights derived from machine learning are expected to drive some of their research, and lead to new understandings.
Social LEAP Estimates Animal Poses (SLEAP)
SLEAP is a data annotation service that is part of Salk. It is a tool for monitoring the postures of animals and plants that is used to reveal new learning about their behavior in social environments. In addition to the annotation tool they have developed, the SLEAP team uses deep learning neural networks to produce accurate predictions from small data sets.
CVAT
CVAT is an open source tool used by hundreds of companies and tens of thousands of users. It is used for video and image annotation, and includes semi-automated features to speed up the annotation process. CVAT’s core team previously worked at Intel, recently joining OpenCV.ai for further development. The new GitHub repository shows their current work, while the original CVAT repository on GitHub has 7.6K stars.
Audino
Audino is an open source audio tagging service that is being used to create a chatbot that can effectively translate between many currently unrepresented Indian languages. The Indian National Health Mission will employ the chatbot to help its Accredited Health Social Activists (ASHAs) translate between rural communities and the broader health system.
equitable access
From Human Protocol they have also highlighted the search for equitable access to data labeling services, which have traditionally been isolated.
“Now, we are pleased to say that our vision is becoming a reality. The Impact Projects initiative – and the partners we are working with – are a validation of what the HUMAN Protocol can offer the next generation of machine learning researchers.”
