This 2021 started with a dispute between Huawei and Tencent and is that, due to differences regarding the distribution of income, the smartphone manufacturer company decided to remove Tencent games from its application store last Friday, January 1.
According to Bloomberg, Huawei made that determination on the advice of its legal department. All while Tencent assured that the situation was due to the fact that the agreement between both companies had expired before a new deal was consolidated.
In that sense, this movement was obviously not indifferent to Tencent since Huawei has a 41.4% share in the Chinese phone market and 14.9% worldwide. So eventually both companies reached an agreement and, as Reuters points out, Tencent’s games have already been brought back into Huawei’s app store.
“Both parties will continue to work together to provide better experiences and services to consumers, ” Tencent said after the new negotiations.
Tencent is the company behind renowned games such as League of Legends, Arena of Valor and Clash of Clans, and this dispute with Huawei would have arisen because the smartphone company wanted “a 50% cut in Tencent’s game sales in its app store, ”according to Reuters.
Although the conflict between Tencent and Huawei has apparently already been resolved, it should be remembered that this is not the first time that a video game company has entered into a dispute over the policies of the Huawei application store and previously miHoYo, those responsible for Genshin Impact, they decided not to include the game in that store because they did not agree with their commission rules.
